How does preference order affect admission at IAU?

Why does IAU announce admissions in several batches?
The university publishes nominated candidates in successive batches because each batch frees seats that earlier nominees did not confirm. Not being nominated in the first batch is not a rejection; your chance carries into later batches.
SAAT carries 40% — can it compensate for a weaker high school GPA?
Partly. Each SAAT mark is worth four tenths of a mark in the final score against three tenths for the GPA, so a strong SAAT offsets a GPA gap more than the reverse. The GPA is also fixed after graduation, whereas the SAAT can be retaken.
